"Mr President, I would first like to give my words of appreciation to Ms Berès for her report, in particular, because it does not just highlight the need for austerity measures, but it also sees the current crisis as a social crisis. The dominant focus on austerity has led to a fragmented approach. Budgetary and macro-economic stability have been monitored without taking into account the main social or educational aims or the objectives of the 2020 strategy for employment. The priority must be investment in sustainable jobs. We must ensure that the most vulnerable groups and those who are most affected by the crisis are protected against the redistributive effects of the economic crisis and plans for fiscal consolidation. We must also address the lack of quality jobs with decent wages and decent working conditions."@en1
