".
Mr President, together with the many millions of poor people living in the European Union, I should like to let the Commission know how pleased I am that it has reached agreement with the Council that this programme will be continued. It involves not only food for victims of hunger, but also support for agriculture. In Latvia last year more than 185 000 people, that is one in every 12, received this aid. I also agree with those of my fellow Members who are arguing for this programme to continue. As a basis for its continuation, I should like to see us taking food from the intervention stockpiles, and not from the market, that it should be fully paid for from the European Union budget, and that it should all have been produced in the European Union."@en1
