"The European Union is slowly seeking to achieve its objectives, such as making the internal market fully operational. This report, drafted by Ms Essayah, concerns the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Regulation (EC) No 924/2009 and establishing technical requirements for credit transfers and direct debits in euro. The single euro payments area (SEPA) is this report’s major innovation and will make the lives of the public and of companies significantly easier. In fact, it is estimated that the benefit to the European economy will be EUR 123 billion over six years. This is a system of facilitated payments throughout the EU – all that will be necessary is an account in a Member State – that will be faster, more efficient, more secure and cheaper. Moreover, it will facilitate the acquisition of goods over the Internet, leading to lower prices. I voted for this proposal and welcome the creation of the SEPA, which will be of such great benefit to Europeans, both individuals and businesses, that Member States outside the euro area have already expressed their intention of joining the system."@en1
