"The purpose is to create a Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). The proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing technical requirements for credit transfers and direct debits in euros seems to be a measure aimed at strengthening the functioning of the internal market so that consumers enjoy the benefits of an integrated market for electronic payments in euros. Another aim is to eliminate the high costs associated with running legacy conventional tools and SEPA in parallel. Consumers will be the main beneficiaries as they will be able to make payments in euros throughout Europe under cheaper, secure terms."@en1
