".
I voted for this report because I think that food security is a basic principle of the European Union. Vaccination against bluetongue must be adapted to the latest scientific developments. This means that using inactivated vaccines is much more effective than the current procedure using live attenuated vaccines. Furthermore, they are also more cost-effective. There has been a fall in the number of animals affected, and the vaccinated herds must not be isolated geographically. I should also emphasise the epidemiological risk posed by using live attenuated vaccines for the sheep population in the affected region. I also think that correlation tables must be introduced in the relevant legislation. This will help make the process of implementing these provisions more transparent. I think that it is vital to reach agreement on this technical amendment."@en1
