"−
The economic welfare of the Union is based on continued creativity and innovation. Consequently, measures for its effective protection are vital in order to ensure the future prosperity of the Union. Intellectual property rights are essential commercial assets that contribute to ensuring that creators and innovators receive fair compensation for their work and that their investment in research and new ideas is protected. The continuous increase in violations of intellectual property rights constitutes a genuine threat not only to the economy of the Union but also, in many cases, to the health and safety of consumers. Therefore efficient and immediate action coordinated on a national, European and world-wide scale is required to combat this phenomenon effectively. Hence, my vote in favour."@en1
