"Access to modern energy services is a fundamental prerequisite for poverty reduction and sustainable human development. They impact upon all aspects of people’s lives and livelihoods, so they demand greater attention from the international community. The European Union should cooperate in accessing energy for the poorest, and contribute to funding it. The EU Energy Facility is the EU’s largest funding mechanism for energy cooperation. However, in comparison with the funding gap in relation to energy access or with funding the necessary aid, the scale of this fund is fairly small. As such, by demonstrating, and enhancing both political will and financial commitment, the EU can play a fundamental role in achieving universal energy access by 2030."@en1
