In the Kivu region, in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, I saw for myself the terrible impact they have on the lives of the women and girls who are the victims of these atrocities. In these development cooperation programmes, it is imperative that the European Union focuses on reproductive and sexual health and the protection of the rights of women during times of war. In the face of such atrocities, reproductive and sexual health must be addressed and not treated as a no-go area. That is why I voted in favour of maintaining paragraphs 17 and 19 and for the report in its entirety."@en¹
