"Raising public awareness of gender equality was one of the great achievements of the 20th century. However, true parity between men and women requires the institutional structures of various entities to be reorganised and it is crucial, from the gender equality point of view, to promote the inclusion of more women in prevention, mediation and resolution of conflicts, and to ensure their involvement in civilian operations. It should be noted that the EU already has a range of policies relating to women, to peace and to security, as well as gender taskforces and focal points relating to women and security. What it lacks, however, is a central unit able to coordinate all these disparate actions, so there is a need to move towards creating the role of Special EU Representative on Women, Peace and Security. That is why I voted for this resolution."@en1
