"Since 1997, Daphne has been the only European programme that helps to combat violence against women, children and young people. Starting life as an initiative, Daphne has become a
multiannual programme whose goals are to contribute to the protection of children, young people and women against all forms of violence and to attain a high level of health protection, well-being and social cohesion. These objectives can only be reached through the promotion and development of effective EU policies, from public health to human rights and gender equality, and by encouraging actions to protect the rights of children and to fight trafficking in human beings and sexual exploitation. Daphne has funded in excess of 500 projects on many issues: From the risks children face in surfing the Internet to the health needs of women victims of trafficking in human beings, and from female genital mutilation to stopping child pornography. Through the adoption of this report today, Parliament highlights the targets that have been reached so far and asks the Commission to continue supporting the programme."@en1
