"The Daphne programme was launched in 1997 with the aim of combating violence against women, young people and children. The initiative was adopted by NGOs, Parliament, the European Commission and experts in this field. The aim was to enhance cooperation at EU level. All Member States can take part in the Daphne initiative. In 2000, the Daphne initiative was transformed into a multiannual financing programme covering the period 2000-2003. The programme aroused interest both in the European Union and in various international bodies, and the funds allocated were used to stop the commercial exploitation of children. The Daphne II and Daphne III programmes were launched in 2004 and 2007 respectively, with an annual budget of EUR 10 million.
I voted for this report because I support the need to introduce the Daphne programme from 2014 as part of the rights and citizenship programme and to preserve its objectives in support of combating violence against women in the 2014-2020 period, in addition to the objectives of the new programme where gender equality and combating violence against women are not specifically mentioned."@en1
