This area often features ideology and myriad choices, yet he has managed to achieve a broad consensus. This report deals with these matters, but also raises the many new challenges that we are facing in terms of tax harmonisation, business taxation and the level of taxation which the Member States are imposing right now, at a time of financial crisis. The matter of tax competition within Europe and with third countries is absolutely crucial. The European Union must have competitive tax systems as a way of attracting wealth and investment to the Union, which is in such need of it."@en1
