"Mr President, I think this is a crucial issue, not only because the role of women in war is important as victims and as targeted objectives in that situation, but also because of the role that women can play in peace-building.
Rebuilding societies and changing some of the patterns that have brought some societies to war: this, to me, is one of the crucial issues that we have to underline – not only in the resolution, but also as the United Nations is doing in their Resolutions 1325 and 1820. That is also why it is so important that the European Union has a specific special representative for this issue. As has been said – and I fully support this – there is a huge opportunity for the European Union to put that issue at the forefront of the external dimension of these activities. This is, as has been said, not a minor issue, and it is a huge opportunity that we should not miss."@en1
