"I voted for this report, as I believe that food wastage has reached unacceptable levels and that we must make every effort to change the current situation by adopting more sustainable behaviour, on a voluntary basis, and appropriate legislation that enables us to combat losses in terms of crops, storage, transport in unsafe conditions and the bad habits of final consumers in buying and using food products. In a context of European-level crisis, where the waste of resources is inadmissible, and with the exponential growth of developing countries, which have new and increased food needs, as well as climate change, which are causing irreversible crop losses, the problem tackled in this report should be a priority for the EU. It is also worth emphasising, therefore, that in addition to the environmental damage caused by producing food that is not used, the costs of treating and disposing of the resulting waste and the loss of revenue for the companies that produce it should also be taken into account."@en1
