In the same way, we believe that it is important to improve the ‘analysis of the reasons behind extreme market fluctuations and seek greater clarity on the interactions between speculation and agricultural markets, as well as energy markets and food commodity prices’. However, the key thing is to advocate any significant measures that benefit small- and medium-scale farmers and the general population, which the report does not mention. These measures should act towards the definition of regulation for the markets and food supply chains which protect national agricultural production and employment in agriculture, thus combating desertification and reducing imports. This report makes little progress towards concrete solutions for improving the current situation in this sector, although it does pose some pertinent questions on this issue, such as those relating to the efficient use of resources, among others."@en1
