Against the backdrop of the current financial crisis, there is a risk of companies considering a reduction in investment in occupational health and safety. Young people are a vulnerable group as they are more concerned about immediate job security, failing to consider the long-term consequences of an illness or injuries sustained when young. I think that for the very purpose of protecting this group, we must develop: a European programme to monitor occupational risks among young people, based on health indicators; professional training programmes providing specific information about the relevant sector to young people in their first months at work."@en1
