"I strongly support the European Parliament resolution on the situation in Syria since it is vital that the international community and the European Union continue to put strong and constant pressure on the Syrian regime to stop the violent and brutal repression of the population. The regime has already caused the unacceptable deaths of 5 000 men, women and children, including 15 killed on Monday 12 December, and it has done so with total impunity. We therefore urgently need to step up our joint efforts to demand the resignation of Bachar al-Assad and that investigations be set up into potential crimes against humanity."@en1
