Competition policy must make the most of the instruments the EU has at its disposal, in order to safeguard the principles of competition and the free market, along with consumer protection. I think we need to find a solution to bank failures by introducing a European regulatory framework that will ensure common rules of intervention as well as monitoring by the Commission. Finally, I hope that we may come to an agreement with the Council to begin discussions with us about competition, so that Parliament may be duly recognised as an institution representing all European citizens."@en1
