"Madam President, I voted for this report because we need to adapt the for occupational health and safety to the new risks in this area. For example, long-term solutions are required for reducing psycho-social risks. Austerity measures during the economic crisis must not affect the level of safety at the workplace. I must say that employees in SMEs are most often vulnerable to occupational risks. SMEs account for 82% of all work-related accidents and 90% of all fatal accidents. A European programme must be developed to monitor occupational risks. I support the idea of devising unique methods for evaluating the impact in the area of occupational health and safety. At the same time, national strategies must be applied effectively, with the participation of workers and social agencies."@en1
