"Madam President, I should like to thank the honourable Members very much for their mostly very positive remarks about the work of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA). How many agencies do we have in Europe? Close to 30; and EMSA is one of the most efficient and well-functioning agencies.
These discussions and Mr Fleckenstein’s report make a valuable contribution to fine-tuning EMSA’s task and also to making all stakeholders and partners aware of the available possibilities to use information held by EMSA and of how cooperation can be improved as regards the fight against piracy and the better functioning of maritime business.
The Commission enthusiastically supports the development of the European Maritime Safety Agency. Of course there are limits, as you understand very well. Everything depends on human and financial resources and, under the current circumstances, there is not a very big increase to be expected in these resources. But, within these resources, we can regroup and reorganise the work as well."@en1
