The purpose of the Commission proposal is to amend, for the second time, Council Directive 2001/112/EC of 20 December 2001 on fruit juices and certain similar products for human consumption, setting out rules on the composition, use of reserved descriptions, manufacturing specifications and labelling of the products concerned, so as to ensure free movement of these products within the European Union. The European Parliament has striven to ensure that the criteria included in this directive will be applied under the same conditions both to products produced within the Union and to imported products.
