"Mr President, I would like to talk about the continuing growth in cooperation between the EU and Russia. In my opinion, this marks a step in the right direction, and ultimately, we are also, in fact, dependent on this cooperation, bearing in mind the enormous raw materials potential of the Russian Federation, and the fact that, as well as us, individual countries are cooperating with the raw materials giant. On the other hand, I would like to point out that Russia is still not up to scratch, so to speak, when it comes to fulfilling certain criteria which we in Europe consider important and essential. I have in mind the recent elections, where it was clear that a certain deficit still exists in Russia, and I am pleased that … or I would like to call on the EU, I would like to say that it is necessary to point out this dimension of mutual cooperation in talks with Russia, and to call on them to eliminate this democratic deficit."@en1
