"I have heard words of praise from many quarters for the Polish Presidency which has been characterised by professionalism and enthusiasm. This Presidency, in extremely challenging circumstances, managed to push forward many concrete solutions of immediate benefit to citizens.
The Presidency focused on the positive message of EU integration. Nowhere was this more evident than in the area of the single market. Achieving a truly barrier-free internal market could increase EU GDP by 4%. The Presidency enthusiastically co-organised the first Single Market Forum in Kraków in October with the Commission and Parliament. Over 1 300 citizens attended to discuss the challenges facing the single market and how to overcome them. The information stands on Kraków’s market square were visited by 7 000 people – informing them of the rights and opportunities granted by this, Europe’s single greatest asset.
The Presidency should also be commended for the progress made in negotiations on some very important dossiers which will greatly contribute to the effective functioning of the single market such as the unitary patent and the roaming regulation. I am proud of Poland’s hard work on behalf of the EU’s 500 million citizens and I wish the Danes success for the first half of 2012."@en1
