"Mr President, I should like to ask Baroness Ashton about the secret agreement between Mr Papandreou, Ms Merkel and Mr Sarkozy reported in the newspaper, concerning the purchase of German and French arms worth 10 billion as a term of the new bailout package. Of course Baroness Ashton is not listening at present, but I should like her to comment for me on this item of news from a reputable newspaper, which comes at a time of anti-social cuts to the 2012 budget and at a time when arms programmes are being increased by 18.2% and spending for NATO is being increased by 50%. If it is true, this is a European scandal of immense proportions, both because the parties currently governing Greece are involved and because German and other companies have been receiving a rake-off for years. I also wish to ask this: does Baroness Ashton agree that the Greek Government should be forced to continue this arms diplomacy? Can she help us, can she help Greece to remove itself from outstanding issues with Turkey, instead of watching us sink even deeper into the crisis?"@en1
