"Mr President, I would first like to start by congratulating the rapporteur, Mr Lisek, for his excellent report and secondly say that I very much welcome the remarks the High Representative has made as a response to that report.
Now, while this debate centres mostly on doing more with less, by pooling and sharing and by cooperation, I would like to concentrate on the need to limit and eventually do away with the most lethal of all weaponry – I mean nuclear weaponry.
It sometimes seems as if the whole issue of weapons control, and especially nuclear weapons control, let alone the issue of denuclearisation, has gone away. It is no longer on our radar. I believe that if we were to manage to revive efforts in that direction, we would greatly strengthen our moral position when we argue, for instance, for denuclearisation of the Middle East and – let us dream, it is going to be Christmas shortly – a world without nuclear weapons."@en1
