"I voted for the European Parliament resolution on trade and investment barriers because I think that removing or reducing unjustified non-tariff barriers (NTBs) and other regulatory obstacles applied by the EU’s key strategic partner countries by means of regulatory dialogue should be one of the priorities of the EU’s new trade policy. We call on the Commission to address these issues in all multilateral and bilateral trade agreements, especially in Free Trade Agreements, and to ensure that NTBs are given at least as much attention as is currently afforded tariff elimination in all the appropriate regulatory forums, particularly during its negotiations with industrialised and emerging economies.
I think that due priority should be given to trade and investment barriers that affect European service sectors, including IT and telecommunications, financial services, construction, retail and distribution. We call on the Commission to pursue, with regard to raw materials, a sustainable, comprehensive and cross-sector strategy so that the export restrictions and taxes applied by some countries to raw materials do not affect global economic development and the fulfilment of the Europe 2020 strategy objectives."@en1
