"I voted for this report. The rapporteur, Mr Sturdy, and the Committee on International Trade (INTA) have done excellent work. In any case, it is right to emphasise that certain states may raise barriers to legitimately protect their own economy and their own consumers. Of course, the text is lacking one important consideration which is that at some point, even the European Union might need to start protecting its own fabric of production rather than limiting itself to only requesting reductions in duties and the removal of non-tariff barriers. In my opinion, a real trade policy should not limit itself to this alone and should consider the interests of European small and medium-sized enterprises first and foremost."@en1
