"Abstention. The rapporteur has acknowledged that his main position was to fight protectionism in all its forms. He believes that open and fair trade is the best way to ensure and maintain a level playing field for European businesses competing at the global level. He maintains that he has always been a strong supporter of the multilateral trading system, and defends the rules established within the WTO framework as the best means to ensure equitable treatment for all global trading partners. We Greens agree on some important points of the proposal. However, we would have preferred to vote down some of the recitals (G, L, M, N and O). We tried and we failed. So, in the end, we have abstained."@en1
