"Freedom of movement is one of the founding principles of the European Economic Community, and in a world in which the drawbacks of economic interdependence have also been revealed, it is essential to lay the foundations for fairer trade, with respect shown for the principle of reciprocity. It is a fact: the European Union still comes up against unjustifiable tariff and regulatory barriers erected by some of its partners, which limits both our companies’ access to these high growth potential markets and investment. By 2015, 90% of global growth will be generated outside the European Union. This is a parameter we cannot ignore. The future of our companies will also be at stake outside our borders. That is why I support the measures proposed in this report to lift these unjustifiable restrictions: a Commission-compiled inventory of key barriers, the establishment of an early warning mechanism, and a strengthening of public procurement disciplines which could lead to the presentation of an instrument for reciprocity in respect of access to third-country government procurement markets by next year."@en1
