"I voted in favour because I think that the European Protection Order is an essential step along the way towards a European area of justice. Under the text adopted today, victims of crimes who have obtained legal protection from a Member State can request the same protection in another Member State as well. These laws, which have already been approved by the national governments, are geared towards protecting victims of gender-based violence, harassment, kidnapping, stalking and attempted murder. Measures to protect crime victims already exist in all Member States, but they cease to be effective if the victim moves to another country. The European Protection Order will therefore allow anyone who is protected in one Member State to obtain protection in all Member States."@en1
