"This report is a first step towards ensuring that the victim of a crime who benefits from a protection order in an EU Member State will continue to be protected should they decide to move to another EU Member State. This European Protection Order will include victims of domestic violence, harassment, abduction, persecution or attempted murder. Although most of the protection measures are intended for women who are victims of domestic violence, the new rules will apply to all victims, regardless of gender, taking into account the specificities of each type of crime concerned.
The directive will apply to measures aimed at protecting a victim or potential victim ‘against a criminal act by another person which may endanger his life, physical, or psychological integrity, dignity, personal liberty or sexual integrity. The ultimate goal is to avoid new criminal acts and to reduce the consequences of previous criminal acts’. Although we believe all this to be fair and necessary, within the framework described, we would point out that as yet, it still lacks the necessary regulations to be put into practice."@en1
