"I voted for this report because it sets out common minimum standards for the whole EU on the right to information in criminal proceedings. This new directive ensures that any person under arrest or accused of a crime will have access to a Letter of Rights informing them of their procedural rights, written in simple language and in a language that they understand. These measures are crucial for strengthening confidence in the European area of justice, since European citizens are increasingly travelling within the EU."@en1
