"The aim of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project is to develop fusion energy. Its global importance means that, in addition to the European Union, the People’s Republic of China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation and the United States are also part of the project, and it is to be hoped that other partners will join as it develops.
The three European institutions have acknowledged the need to increase the European contribution for the period 2012-2013, and it is incumbent on Parliament now to give its assent to this increase. The search for more abundant, cheaper and cleaner energy sources should be among the political priorities of the Union and the Member States, and the Union should not distance itself from the projects in pursuit of that goal in which it is involved."@en1
