"I voted in favour of revising the multiannual financial framework to address additional financing needs of the ITER project. The figure stands at EUR 1.3 billion. My first words will be to commend the huge effort made by Alain Lamassoure, Chair of the Committee on Budgets, to gather everyone’s views while emphasising the European interest and that of the European people. Like the generations before us, we know that we will overcome the challenges we face by drawing on mankind’s scientific expertise. This is the case where energy is concerned. Furthermore, there was an urgent need to send a message to our international partners on this remarkable project telling them that we can deliver on our commitments."@en1
