lpv:translated text	"Mr President, I wish to highlight that the Romanian Government has decided today to legislate on merging local and parliamentary elections in 2012 by taking on the responsibility without holding a debate in Parliament and, in so doing, has extended the mandate of local elected officials without justification. Organising local and parliamentary elections on the same date goes against the spirit of European recommendations. What is more, the undemocratic nature of this move is also clear from European conventions, and the Venice Commission clearly states that the legislation cannot be amended one year before the elections take place. Given that we have so many problems in Europe, we must find solutions for ending this crisis. In such a volatile global climate, we need your support and the close monitoring of events in Romania, in the knowledge and awareness that we are interested in having the legitimacy of the governments in the European Union."@en1
