lpv:translated text	"Mr President, I would like to draw attention to restrictions on rights experienced by municipalities under the current conservative and liberal coalition governing Lithuania. Due to the recession and government inaction, some municipalities are trying to provide their residents with financial assistance by themselves. Unfortunately, last week a government representative demanded that Vilnius district municipality revoke its 2009 decision under which residents’ heating costs are subsidised. This is government interference in the competence of municipalities and a gross violation of the European Charter of Local Self-Government, and unfortunately not the first one. Municipalities in my country are so far unable to use finance and land of their own accord. The use of even the smallest plot of land for municipal purposes requires explicit government permission. I would like to use this platform as an MEP to ask the Committee of the Regions and other local bodies to defend municipalities’ rights, which have been disregarded by the current Lithuanian Government."@en1
