"Mr President the introduction of a single application procedure leading to the issue in a single administrative act of a combined residence and work permit will help simplify and harmonise the rules currently applicable in the Member States. I support equal treatment between third-country nationals who are legally present in the territory of the EU and the citizens of the host Member State as regards access to social housing, education, the right to pensions and social services.
I appreciate the efficiency of SOLVIT, which, for example, helped a Turkish national to join his pregnant Danish wife living in Germany in eight weeks. In 2010, 23% of all cases referred to SOLVIT related to residence rights for non-EU citizens.
However, I think that Member States must give priority to the employment of EU nationals. This is why I am taking this opportunity to call for the lifting of barriers preventing the freedom of movement of Romanian and Bulgarian workers."@en1
