"Madam President, I welcome the initiative of adopting a European directive to protect victims of crime. It consolidates the principle of automatic mutual recognition in the Union and complements the European Arrest Warrant.
This directive proposes a significant reduction in the bureaucracy needed to implement cross-border security measures. In most cases where such intervention is necessary, the response time is crucial. I therefore draw attention to Amendment 10. The new text proposes a flexibility clause.
This sets out a mechanism for adapting the European protection order to the legislation of each Member State. Coordination between Member States is also important as regards monitoring compliance with the security measures. If they are breached, they can be replaced or supplemented in accordance with the understanding between the executing state and the one which issued the order."@en1
