"I voted in favour of Mr Salvini’s report, which stresses the crucial role that customs services play in protecting the internal market and consumers. In particular, modernisation should include simplifying procedures, taking into account SMEs’ needs and expectations, and increasing protection for consumers and intellectual property rights. At the same time, I feel that the list-based rules should be extended unreservedly in order to reflect the general principle that the non-preferential origin of goods is determined by where their last substantial processing took place. This will allow us to clarify the legal framework and thereby reduce costs for economic operators. Consequently, I did not support paragraph 45 of the report."@en1
