"I voted in favour because I consider a complete and early diagnosis of the HIV virus to be of fundamental importance in fighting its spread. Indeed, prompt treatment can reduce the patient’s infectivity and cut the rate of HIV transmission up to 96%. Prevention and information are still the cornerstones of suitable and effective health care to protect patients. I also see this resolution in light of the specific context of defending the right to health of the immigrant population, whom must be guaranteed the best possible level of assistance and treatment. We must remember that the UNAIDS 2011 Report claims that 68% of the global population affected by HIV live in sub-Saharan Africa, the starting point for substantial flows of immigrants heading towards Europe. Furthermore, migration often means that migrants become marginalised and exposed to a higher risk of contracting infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS. Hence, it is important to ensure universal and equal access to prevention, detection tests, treatment and support for people affected by HIV, as well as treatment for co-infections including tuberculosis and hepatitis B and C."@en1
