"The number of cases of HIV infection has continued to increase alarmingly in Europe, due in part to advances in combination therapy making the idea of contamination less frightening. With this in mind, I voted in favour of this resolution in order to promote access to comprehensive information on contraception, which is specifically discussed in three paragraphs calling, firstly, for HIV/AIDS prevention programmes to be integrated into sexual and reproductive health and rights programmes; secondly, for Member States to ensure that all national AIDS programmes develop strong linkages between sexual and reproductive health and HIV services; and lastly, for the Commission and Council to ensure access to high-quality, comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services, information and supplies, in particular, confidential and voluntary counselling, testing and treatment; prevention of unintended pregnancies; equitable and affordable access to contraceptives; safe and legal abortion; and care and treatment to prevent vertical transmission of HIV, in particular to children."@en1
