"I voted for this resolution because AIDS is a fully preventable disease, and primary prevention interventions, especially through providing information, skills and the necessary services and products, are key to preventing the spread of HIV. We see at the moment an alarming rise in the number of people infected with HIV. This is a particularly significant problem, especially in Eastern Europe. I support the call made to the Commission and Council for the necessary resources to be invested to guarantee fair access to HIV prevention measures, and I think that the social stigma issue needs to be dealt with comprehensively. At the same time, I believe that the Commission should develop joint EU actions and approaches to promoting full respect for human rights, as well as information campaigns to combat the stigmatisation of and the discrimination suffered by people living with HIV/AIDS. Last but not least, Member States have a duty to take all necessary action to end the discrimination suffered by people living with this virus, especially regarding access to, and the terms and cost of, insurance services."@en1
