"I voted in favour of this resolution because well learnt lessons from the past can provide a bridge to a successful future. When assessing the experience of the first wave of the crisis, EU institutions and Member States should not just look differently at the future but also examine the current situation differently, but this is often not the case. However, the world has changed significantly in recent years. The directives being adopted are not effective enough to overcome the new challenges arising every day and ever growing old challenges in the economic, financial and social fields. Today, the main issue on the EU agenda is that of the scale of unemployment in Member States. We must implement urgent measures and programmes to ensure that unemployment is reduced by at least a third as quickly as possible. I believe that the Commission should, as soon as possible, envisage and submit specific plans laying down measures which enable progress to be made in implementing the main immediate and short-term objectives in the areas of job creation, innovation, education, energy and social inclusion."@en1
