"It is a sad fact for the entire global economy that the Eurocrats in Brussels have failed to take any constructive steps in dealing with the financial and economic crisis that has lasted since 2008. What is even worse is the fact that the European leadership continues to close its eyes to any sensible alternative for resolving the problem. Instead, they continue along the wrong path first chosen at the end of the 1990s, when the euro was launched. In their desperation, the Eurocrats can think of no better remedy than to call for even greater centralisation in Brussels. However, instead of shifting more powers to Brussels with the European Semester, what we should be doing is preventing the indebtedness in the first place. In view of the morass that is the debt crisis, the priority should be at all costs to prevent the economically sound members of the euro area from being dragged into the abyss too. Since the European Semester does not offer any rational solutions in this regard, I voted against it."@en1
