"Labour MEPs backed this lengthy report as it includes important and positive proposals, including the importance of the European Commission's analysis of growth focusing on long-term sustainable growth. We also welcome its clarification that wages, pensions and other crucial elements of a nation’s social system are issues for subsidiarity which Member States themselves should decide on, without intervention from the European Union. The report makes limited reference to exploring the concept of a European Treasury to support the economic pillar of Economic and Monetary Union. It is a matter for eurozone Members to determine whether such an institution is to be put in place for the eurozone, but Labour MEPs do not support any implication that such bodies should apply to non-eurozone Member States."@en1
