lpv:translated text	"Imposing ever-increasing budgetary discipline on the Member States in line with the predominant economic policies will not help us to recover from this crisis or prevent a future crisis from breaking out. Instead, it may exacerbate its effects, increase inequality, poverty and unemployment, and lead to the impoverishment of the people. We therefore tabled amendments to this report, which have not been adopted. For example, some of the amendments we tabled call on the Member States, the Council and the Commission to take account of the strong and ever-increasing resistance of European citizens to the harsh measures of the troika’s ‘bailout packages’ and the austerity policies followed; consider fiscal policy an important instrument in the management of economic and development policy, but the introduction of the European Semester and the stifling effects arising from the anticipation of fiscal policy coordination will prevent the Member States from having the ability and the flexibility required to pursue an effective stabilisation policy aimed at redistribution of wealth, at sustainable development and at job creation, so providing people with an adequate range of public services and infrastructure; and stress that trying to overcome the crisis by implementing stricter budgetary discipline and deregulation measures will not eliminate the root causes of the crisis but will instead aggravate the situation and reinforce neoliberal economic policies.
