"The Berès report is commendable in that it rebalances the Commission’s proposal on the European Semester, which simply had to be done. By focusing on the priority of employment and on the idea that the budgetary, economic and social strategies introduced must have a redistributive and developmental role, the report gives new meaning to the prospects of overcoming the crisis, as we hope to do. Unfortunately, the European Parliament is still not involved enough in the European Semester process, just as, in fact, it is often excluded from the current crisis management efforts, which is a key problem for EU democracy and legitimacy. Therefore, I can only share the view that an interparliamentary conference involving both the EP and the national parliaments should be organised next year, so that, finally, we can open a broader debate on the measures we want to take and the project we want to support."@en1
