The Member of the European Parliament, Mr Uspaskich, is facing charges of offences of what is essentially false accounting in relation to the financing of a political party during a period prior to his election to the European Parliament. On 7 September 2010, Parliament waived the parliamentary immunity of Mr Uspaskich because it believed no convincing evidence had been given for his allegation of and that the criminal activities of which Mr Uspaskich is accused are unrelated to his activities as a Member of this House. That is why I am voting in favour of not waiving the parliamentary immunity and privileges of Mr Uspaskich."@en1
