"I voted for this report, which clarifies and strengthens control over the money received by MEPs and what they do with it. This report is far from being the most fundamentally political of reports. It does, however, serve as a response to those who are attempting, once again, to win votes on the dangerous ground of anti-parliamentarism. To those people, who include certain members of the far right, we say: ‘There should be nothing to hide!’ Incidentally, I regret that the members of the Confederal Group of the European United Left – Nordic Green Left were the only ones who all voted against an amendment proposing to limit the declaration of supplementary income to income in excess of EUR 5 000. Unfortunately, this amendment was still adopted. Let us hope that this text will help put an end to numerous fantasies that discredit political action as a whole and that are constantly fed by the practices, inherent in human nature, of a few. Following this further step in the direction of greater transparency, political debate should refocus on far more important issues."@en1
