"I voted in favour of this document because I believe that this code sets out rules and principles that MEPs ought to respect in their external dealings so as to avoid any conflicts of interest. The new Code of Conduct will offer a robust shield against unethical actions and is a big step forward in comparison to the current situation. The broad consensus shown by my fellow Members on the new Code of Conduct has a symbolic value that cannot be ignored. Externally, it shows the public that Parliament is a transparent mechanism working for the common good and for building Europe on the foundations of freedom and justice."@en1
